METHODOLOGY — EDITORIAL STANDARDS DOCUMENTATION

Source.Verify.Document.

The Karone methodology defines how every piece of content is constructed, verified against indexed source literature, and maintained through a documented quarterly review cycle. This page describes that process in full.

02 / THE EDITORIAL PROCESS

Six Stages. Every Piece.

01
STAGE 01

Topic Identification

Topics are identified through a combination of reader inquiry data, gap analysis across existing program documentation, and periodic review of published research calendars in sports science, nutrition, and behavioural wellness journals. Commercial considerations have no input at this stage.

02
STAGE 02

Literature Assembly

A minimum of five indexed sources are assembled per topic before drafting begins. Sources are drawn exclusively from peer-reviewed journals, national nutrition bodies, and published exercise science research. Trade publications, press releases, and brand-funded studies are excluded from the primary reference pool.

03
STAGE 03

Draft Construction

Drafts are structured around claim-reference pairings. Each paragraph that makes a specific assertion must link to at least one indexed source citation. Claims that cannot be sourced to indexed literature are either reframed as editorial observations or removed from the draft entirely.

04
STAGE 04

Independent Review

Completed drafts are reviewed by a qualified nutrition professional or certified movement specialist who did not author the piece. The reviewer's name, qualification, and review date are appended to the document metadata block. Reviewer comments are archived with revision history.

05
STAGE 05

Publication & Metadata

Upon publication, each piece carries a visible metadata block: primary source count, reviewer name, publication date, and next scheduled review date. The metadata block is updated in place when revisions occur. Readers can assess document freshness and source depth without accessing the reference list.

06
STAGE 06

Quarterly Review Cycle

All active program documents enter the quarterly review queue. If a primary source has been superseded, retracted, or substantially updated, the relevant content is revised within the current cycle. Pieces that require no revision receive a "reviewed — no change" notation in the update log.

03 / SOURCE STANDARDS

What Qualifies as a Source

── ── ── ── ── ──

The Karone source qualification framework distinguishes between primary, secondary, and excluded source categories. This distinction shapes how claims are graded within the editorial hierarchy.

Primary Sources — Accepted

  • — Peer-reviewed journal articles (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science indexed)
  • — Published systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • — National nutrition authority guidelines (WHO, national dietary bodies)
  • — Randomised controlled research published in indexed exercise science journals
  • — Official position statements from recognised sports science organisations

Secondary Sources — Conditional

  • — Published books by credentialled researchers (used for contextual framing only)
  • — Conference proceedings (used only where primary publication is pending)
  • — Government agency data reports (statistical context, not claim support)

Excluded Sources

  • — Brand-commissioned research and white papers
  • — Trade publication articles without primary citation
  • — Social media content, podcasts, and influencer claims
  • — Press releases and product marketing materials
  • — Anecdotal testimonials regardless of source prominence
04 / EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE

No Commercial Influence on Content

── ── ── ── ── ──

Karone does not accept sponsored content, affiliate arrangements, brand partnerships, or advertorial agreements. Every program document, article, and editorial piece is produced without commercial consideration. No brand, supplier, or distribution channel has input into what topics are covered, how they are framed, or what conclusions are drawn.

Revenue for the Karone journal is generated through direct reader subscriptions and institutional content licensing. Neither revenue stream creates a conflict of interest with editorial decisions, as neither is tied to specific topic coverage or brand mentions.

Where Karone editorial staff hold professional relationships with organisations in adjacent industries, these relationships are disclosed in the contributor metadata block for relevant pieces. The relationship does not disqualify the contributor, but full disclosure is required before publication.

Third-Party Review Structure

── ── ── ── ── ──

Every content piece in the Karone program library undergoes review by a qualified wellness or nutrition professional before publication. The reviewer role is deliberately separated from the authorship role — no writer reviews their own work.

The reviewer is responsible for three tasks: confirming that all primary source citations are accurate and retrievable, assessing whether claims are proportionate to the strength of evidence cited, and flagging any language that overstates certainty. A reviewer summary note is appended to the document prior to publication.

Ingredient Sourcing Disclosure

── ── ── ── ── ──

Active ingredients are sourced from documented suppliers, with each batch accompanied by a certificate of composition. Sourcing prioritises suppliers whose facilities maintain food-grade processing standards.

Where Karone references specific nutritional components in its program content, the sourcing context is drawn from supplier documentation and published composition data — not from brand marketing materials. The ingredient profile documentation follows the same evidence-informed structure as all other editorial content.

DOCUMENTATION STANDARD

Each nutritional reference in program content is linked to a batch-verifiable composition document. Supplier names and certification reference numbers are retained in the internal archive, accessible to the editorial review team.

FOOD-GRADE PROCESSING

Sourcing assessment evaluates whether supplier facilities operate under food-grade processing standards. Suppliers that cannot provide documentation of current processing standards are excluded from the reference pool.

07 / METHODOLOGY FAQ

Common Questions on Standards

Yes. The quarterly review cycle explicitly includes a scan of new publications in indexed journals for each active program domain. If a foundational reference is superseded by higher-quality evidence, the relevant content is updated and the update log entry is timestamped and appended to the metadata block.

Reviewer qualifications are verified against registrar records or certification body listings prior to onboarding. Copies of qualifications are held in the internal contributor file. Reviewers are required to disclose any change in standing or professional affiliation that occurs after onboarding.

Retraction notices for indexed journals are monitored via automated feeds. When a retraction affects a primary source used in Karone content, the affected piece is flagged for urgent review, which takes place outside the standard quarterly cycle. The piece is either revised, removed from public access, or annotated with a retraction notice — depending on the degree to which the retracted source influenced the original claims.

Yes. Full reference lists for any program document are available on request through the contact form. The request should identify the specific document by title or publication date. Reference lists are provided in standard citation format within five working days of the request being received.

Yes, with one structural variation. Programs 05 (Outdoor & Functional Fitness) and 06 (Grooming & Personal Care) operate on a biannual rather than quarterly review cycle, reflecting the comparatively slower evolution of source literature in those domains. All other methodology requirements — source count minimums, independent review, metadata documentation, and commercial independence — apply uniformly across all six domains.
